Meet Our 2020 Conference Speakers

Dr Emily Grossman – Keynote speaker

Dr Emily Grossman is an internationally acclaimed science author, public speaker, science communicator and TV personality. She is an expert in molecular biology and genetics, with a Double First in Natural Sciences from Queens’ College Cambridge and a PhD in cancer research. Emily has also trained and worked as an actress and singer, and as a maths and science teacher. She now combines these skills in her role as a science broadcaster, writer, educator and trainer. She is co-founder of the Group Scientists for Extinction Rebellion and has given dozens of talks and media interviews on this subject.

Emily was recently named as the second Honorary STEM Ambassador (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), alongside astronaut Tim Peake, for her pioneering work in STEM education and as a role model to young people. She was a member of the Bank of England Expert Advisory Panel, who were responsible for selecting Alan Turing to be the face of the new polymer £50 note and is the author of “Brain-Fizzing Facts: Awesome Science Questions Answered”, published by Bloomsbury in August 2019.

Dr Jonathan Ashong-Lamptey

Dr Jonathan Ashong-Lamptey is a globally recognised authority on Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace. He has a PhD from the London School of Economics and understands the science behind inclusive behaviour. He is the host of The Element of Inclusion; a weekly podcast in its third year of informing and educating using applied research and thought leadership. He contributed to the McGregor Smith Report and worked with the Cabinet Office and organisations including Aviva Insurance, KPMG and CIPD and the ICF. Jonathan combines professional expertise with academic rigour to drive change using applied research and a growth mindset. He believes that people are the most important part of any organisation and is currently writing a book to support his mission to help one million people around the world to make the workplace inclusive.

Claudia Babescu

Claudia has a degree in Maths and Computer Science and a passion for psychology. She creates technologies that deliver high impact and produce meaningful change. With more than 12 years of technology industry experience, Claudia founded Marmot Labs on the belief that training, and coaching can suit every individual’s natural learning pace. Passionate about technology’s transformative power, Claudia loves pushing the boundaries of what is possible, and constantly challenges the people around her to do the same.

Paul J Barbour

Paul J Barbour is an executive and team coach. Paul’s interest in the psychology of teams began during a successful 20-year career as a senior leader in Kerry Group PLC.

An award-winning student on the Henley MSc in Coaching & Behavioural Change, Paul was also awarded ‘Best Newcomer’ to Personal Construct Psychology at the 14th Biennial European Personal Construct Association Conference.

Paul and his co-presenter Lucy Widdowson, are co-authoring a book on team coaching to be published in 2020.

Jenny Bird, MCC

Jenny Bird, MCC, is an executive coach, working with senior leaders since 2000 and a coach supervisor. Her coaching consultancy partners with organisations to create unique interventions for development and direction. Jenny has contributed to numerous master classes and conferences across the world. She is co-author, with her co-presenter Sarah Gornall, PCC, of the highly acclaimed “The Art of Coaching: A Handbook of Tips and Tools” and “How to Work with People… and Enjoy It”.

Bill Britten

Bill has been a performance coach with Maynard Leigh Associates since 2004, following 20 years as an actor, then a film and television director. He has coached a huge number of people to improve their presentation skills, including many senior executives. An obstacle that comes up repeatedly for clients is overcoming nerves in front of audiences and creating impact at meetings. Bill sees huge immediate potential in virtual reality to give clients the opportunity to rehearse new techniques and practise dealing with nerves in a no-consequence environment.

Charly Cox, PCC

Charly is a PCC with over 2200 hours of coaching experience and is the Founder of the Climate Change Coaches. She is enthusiastic about the energising role that coaches can play in transforming our world, not only the individuals within it. Charly has always tackled thorny challenges and big system change. She coached humanitarians battling the 2014 Ebola crisis, and has helped big business become equipped to lead in uncertainty and volatility. Charly turned her practice to tackling climate change following the birth of her daughter, and founded the Climate Change Coaches to show coaches how their skills can support people and organisations to change rapidly, and to train leaders in coaching skills to empower and influence teams as they go through big change. Charly is an incurable optimist, and an inspiring public speaker, who will leave you feeling empowered.

Dominic Curran

Dominic Curran is headteacher of St Bede’s Catholic Primary School in Washington, Tyne and Wear. He is passionate about a balanced and holistic approach to education. He has delivered coaching to school leaders and teachers and is working alongside Chancery Multi Academy Trust to develop coaching practice in leadership further.

Dominic and his co-presenters Helen Morris and Louise Gohr are all trained and practising coaches.

Julie Flower

Julie Flower is a leadership and team development consultant and coach. Her special interest lies in helping clients develop spontaneity, adaptability and flexibility of thinking in complex and uncertain systems environments. She runs a leadership and team development practice, The Specialist Generalist Ltd, working with clients as diverse as IE Business School (Madrid), Transport Scotland and GlaxoSmithKline. Her approach is playful, yet professional and purposeful. She is also a regular improv performer in the UK and at international festivals, including with London-based group Classic Andy and female comedy duo Twinprov.

Julie has wide-ranging leadership and consultancy experience in the public, private and third sectors, with particular expertise in the NHS. She is currently completing the Henley MSc in Coaching and Behaviour Change and intends to conduct research on the role of improvisation skills in coaching.

Carole Gaskell

Carole is an award-winning speaker, highly-acclaimed coach and author of global best-sellers “Transform Your Life - 10 Steps to Real Results” and “Your Pocket Life Coach”, in addition to two specialist books, “Full Potential Leadership - A Provocative Call to Make a Dramatic Difference” and “Full Potential Coach - Transforming People’s Potential into Results”.

Founding Full Potential Group in 1998, she specialises in coaching executive teams, creating agile culture change, transformational leadership and team development. Carole is a Master Certified Practitioner in Neuro-agility and Motivational Maps. A cancer survivor, she is passionate about well-being and performance, activating new potential in leaders, teams and organisations to make a greater difference in the world.

Louise Gohr

Louise Gohr is a Headteacher in a thriving primary school in Cheshire East. Louise is passionate about learning and believes that regular and honest self-reflection is the key to this. Special Interests are supporting senior leaders and middle leaders.

Sarah Gornall, PCC

Sarah Gornall, PCC, is an experienced executive coach and coach supervisor, described by clients as wise and inspirational. She is co-author of the highly acclaimed “The Art of Coaching: A Handbook of Tips and Tools” and “How to Work with People… and Enjoy It” and also of “Coaching and Learning in Schools”. Sarah has been a Board member of several organisations; President of UK ICF 2018-19. She runs workshops in the UK and internationally.

Slavomir Latko

Slavomir Latko is an in-demand, London-based holistic therapist and teacher who specialises in Daoist wellness studied in Wudang Mountains, China, among other holistic therapies, primarily inspired by eastern and western mystical traditions.

His unique approach to healing and wellness enables both individuals and groups from any background to find the strength, power and wellbeing through flexibility and gentleness.

Dr Barbara Mariposa

Dr Barbara is a medical doctor, with a background in psychiatry and public health, an author, experienced public speaker and event leader. She now works with organisations to bring the “how to do it” of wellbeing into the workplace. As a thought leader in her field, her engaging and inspiring events delve into making the most of our most precious shared resource, human energy.

Grounded in science, her down to earth approach has found wide appeal with professionals and companies large and small. Clients include MGOMD, McKinsey, Field Fisher, Randstad, Ares Management, EMSO, SMEG, AEG, and Kobalt. As well as her book, “The Mindfulness Playbook”, she co-authored “Leading with Presence,” and “The Kindness Habit - transforming our relationship to addictive behaviours.”

She also appeared at Glastonbury three years in a row and has three kids, now grown up, who were more than delighted to accompany her to these events!

Helen Morris

Helen Morris was a Principal in a successful Primary Academy in Cheshire East for seven years. She has now set up Windmill Coaching and Consultancy, and mainly works with clients in the education sector. Her special interests include leadership, career crossroads, and employee wellbeing.

Helen and her co-presenters Dominic Curran and Louise Gohr are all trained and practising coaches.

Christine Paulus

Christine Paulus is M. Sc. Psychologist, certified Integral Coach and jazz saxophonist.

Since work and organisational psychology is her field of expertise, her scientific focus is on leadership, personality, and team dynamics. She thrives in applying the key factors for stimulating innovation, enhancing performance of individuals, teams and organisations, and creating a fulfilling interaction between work and private life.

As a longtime musician and saxophonist she discovered inspiring similarities between music, business and human development. These findings are the core of her jazz metaphor, whose ideas are captured in her Integral Jazzy Coaching Model.

As a certified Integral Coach and Business Coach and member of the International Coach Federation Christine provides one-on-one online coaching for personal and professional development. She presented her unique jazzy approach in her TEDx Talk “Coaching and All That Jazz”.

Ingrid Pope, ACC

A former IT Director with a successful 16-year corporate career, Ingrid experienced the negative impact too much ‘mind clutter’ has on productivity and how it gets in the way of objective decision-making. She works with senior leaders, executives and teams who operate in highly complex environments, who are overworked and are constantly juggling between getting the tasks done versus looking after their people. And in the process, they have lost the focus of what is important and needs attention - quite often themselves.

She is a highly experienced multi-lingual and multi-cultural executive coach, both within a corporate environment and elsewhere, holds an ICF ACC credential, is a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and contributes to the Future of Coaching Collaboration (FCC) on how technology is disrupting the coaching industry and its impact on ethics.

Aboodi Shabi, PCC

Aboodi Shabi is Lecturer in Coaching and Behavioural Change at Henley Business School.

He has been working in executive coaching and coach training since the mid 1990s and has several years of international coaching, training and leadership development experience. He has delivered coach-training programmes and worked with executives and teams all over the world, in sectors ranging from NGOs to financial services, pharmaceuticals and media.

He is a regular speaker on the international coaching circuit, and a popular international speaker and has also been invited as guest tutor on mastery in coaching at several European coaching schools.

He has been on the ICF global coaching board, and was founding co-President of the UK ICF Chapter.

He is currently on the editorial board of Coaching at Work magazine.

Lucy Widdowson, PCC

Lucy Widdowson is an accredited coach and team coach and Director of Performance Edge Partners Ltd. Lucy has worked at board level as an HR director and led award-winning teams. A graduate of the Henley MSc Coaching & Behavioural Change, Lucy conducted her masters research on the impact of team coaching.

She has been a pivotal contributor to the International Coach Federation global research on team coaching competencies and the UK Chapter lead for team coaching.

Lucy and her co presenter Paul J Barbour, are co-authoring a book on team coaching to be published in 2020.
